  8. Feb 17, 2011 · A side note about syntax: don't put a space before the comma, only after: "He returned check, tha t i issued him." Come to think of it, you really don't need - or actually shouldn't have (at least in AE) - the comma at all here. "He returned the check I issued him" sounds perfectly fine to my AE ears.
