RWTH Aachen University (German: [ˌɛʁveːteːˌhaː ˈʔaːxn̩]), in German Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, is a German public research university located in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. With more than 47,000 students enrolled in 144 study programs, it is the largest technical university in Germany.
With its 260 institutes in nine faculties, RWTH Aachen is among the leading European scientific and research institutions. 47,173 students in 166 courses of study are enrolled in the winter semester of 2020/21, including over 12,000 international students from more than 120 countries.
Today the Rhenish-Westphalian Technical University (RWTH), founded in 1870 as the 'Königlich Rheinisch Westfälische Polytechnische Schule zu Aachen', consists of two hundred and sixty professorships and institutes as well as a hundred and seventy areas of teaching and research.
