Mar 21, 2020 · In this striking scene from director Toyoshima Keisuke’s new film, Mishima: The Last Debate, restored archive footage pits Akuta Masuhiko — Tokyo University’s finest debater, we are told — against Tokyo University (Tōdai) alumnus Mishima, a figure widely regarded as key in the history of modern Japanese literature.
The original master footage of his last debate with students has been found after 50 years from the filming. Though they have different opinions to each other, Mishima addressed to and influenced the young audience with respect.
