One cannot apply for membership to Phi Beta Kappa. Rather, almost all members are elected from candidates for degrees in the liberal arts and sciences who are in the top 5 to 10 percent of the graduating class at institutions that have a Phi Beta Kappa chapter.

Welcome to the Yale Phi Beta Kappa website. Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest academic honor society in the country. Yale’s chapter, Alpha of Connecticut, was established in April 1780, four years after the Society was founded at the College of William and Mary. It is the second oldest chapter in the country.

Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest and most prestigious undergraduate honors society in the United States. Each semester, the Alpha of Louisiana chapter elects undergraduate members from Tulane University to the Phi Beta Kappa organization.
